Carhartt Jacket – Crossing Style Lines without Compromising Quality
Heavy duty and hip hop get married in a style merger called the Carhartt jacket. This sturdy outerwear is practical and tough. Originally created to outfit railroad workers with extremely durable work clothing and outerwear, this family-owned company still clothes many workers around the world. The classic look is the signature brown cotton chore coat, but colourful baseball jackets and hooded coats in other colours are also very popular. They even have waterproof jackets and a parka suitable for the frigid cold in Alaska. You can stop shivering in its tracks with heavy duty cold protection.
Hamilton Carhart added an extra "t" to his name to add to his individuality and sales appeal. Maybe this striving for uniqueness draws the hip hop culture as much as the style of clothing manufactured by the namesake company. Hamilton started his clothing company by designing and manufacturing overall for railroad workers who were notoriously tough on clothes. This grew into a company that is known for practicality and durability. Carhartt jackets and other clothing items are made with heavy duty threads, reinforced rivets and seams, and flame-resistant, abrasion-resistant, and water-resistant materials. Because of the long life of the brand's clothes, it is the number one choice for most ranchers, farmers, and construction workers.
The company was founded in 1899, and continued to be pretty much solely for the working man for almost one hundred years. The hip hop culture brought the Carhartt jacket to the attention of another style world in the 1990's. Tommy Boy records used the clothing and jackets in marketing. Recording artists began wearing them. Crack dealers were seen in them staying warm on street corners and hiding their wares in the ample pockets. From there, the craze caught on with the younger generation and expanded out. Now, the brand name is a fashion icon for anyone from hip hop to grunge to the blue collar worker.
Based in Dearborn, Michigan, the still family-owned company has seventeen plants and three mills in the United States, Europe, and Canada. Carhartt jackets in the traditional, Europe, and Streetwear lines are chic in a no-nonsense way. Wearers are no longer put in a box but can be preppy, hip hop, hard-working, trendy, classic, and more in their fashion sense. The company has found a way to cross cultural divisions. The world would be better if we could all learn and do the same.
